Tom is a licensed mental health counselor with over six years of clinical experience. Prior to becoming a therapist, he worked in the social services field supporting youth in the foster care system as they transitioned into adulthood. In that role, Tom focused on developing independent living skills, building stability, and helping young people navigate systems that were often confusing, overwhelming, or not built with their needs in mind. This foundation continues to shape his approach to therapy today.
Tom’s therapeutic style is flexible, relational, and collaborative, grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Sessions move at your pace and are rooted in empathy, curiosity, and care. You can expect a nonjudgmental space where both practical tools and individualized support are offered to help you process what brings you in and find ways to feel more grounded, supported, and less alone.
Tom earned his master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Rollins College and holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with additional graduate-level coursework in education. He currently works primarily via telehealth and sees clients ranging from teens through older adults.
Tom is an active member of both the LGBTQ+ and disability communities, and brings lived experience into his work with thoughtfulness and humility. He is also accompanied by his beloved service dog, Surfer, who is very special, very good at his job, and a cherished part of Tom’s work and life. For clients who welcome it, Surfer’s presence can offer an extra layer of calm, connection, and gentle grounding.
Tom works with teens and adults, including LGBTQ+ clients and individuals living with chronic disabilities. His work is especially supportive for clients navigating identity, accessibility, burnout, and the quiet weight of being expected to carry more than is reasonable. Tom offers therapy that is affirming, human, and deeply respectful of the complexity of people’s lives, with Surfer proudly by his side.
