Counseling with Children

Play therapy is a fun and supportive way for kids to work through their emotions, challenges, and behaviors. By using play, kids can express themselves, process tough experiences, and learn coping skills in a way that feels comfortable and natural. Whether they’re dealing with anxiety, grief, trauma, or social struggles, play therapy offers a creative way to grow emotionally, build confidence, and improve communication.

“Toys are used like words by children, and play is their language.” - Gary Landreth

At Eden Wellness, our clinicians primarily use non-directive play therapy when working with children. In these sessions, the child takes the lead, and the therapist plays a more passive role, observing and providing validation. The therapist tracks play themes, creating a safe, supportive space where the child can express themselves freely. While it may seem like the session is just about playing (and your child might say the same), there’s actually a lot of important therapeutic work happening during these play-filled moments. It’s through this creative outlet that children can heal, process emotions, and build important skills.

Along with play, your child’s clinician may incorporate other activities to support their emotional and behavioral growth. This could include things like worksheets, breathing exercises, board games, or even talking through life challenges. We’re always paying close attention to your child’s needs and adjusting our approach during each session to ensure we’re using the best methods to support their progress and well-being.

We will always keep you informed about what they’re working on with your child and may even ask for time to work with you directly. This way, you can learn the most effective ways to support your child outside of sessions. We believe that a child’s grown-ups play a crucial role in creating lasting change, and we want to ensure you feel actively involved in the process every step of the way.

Our talented therapists are excited to help your kids navigate challenges and learn to manage their emotions with confidence.
